So on Wednesday I became Hannah Louise Davies BA after I graduated from the University of Leeds with a History degree. It was just the best day. My mum, dad and boyfriend all went and I succeeded in not making a complete dick of myself in front of the entire history school despite my extreme clumsiness; all in all a pretty perfect day. Currently telling people I graduated from Hogwarts though because the ceremony took place in the Great Hall and the robes were very Harry Potter-esque. Basically living my 14 year old self's fantasy.
Dress shopping for the occasion was not so fun. Although you can barely see the dress under the robes I had a very particular image in mind. I knew I wanted a white dress because it had to go with the green hood, but finding a white dress is a lot harder than it sounds as it turns out. After dragging my mum and both grandmas around Nottingham for three hours I found this dress from Next by chance. I thought it looked too old woman-ish on the hanger but tried it on anyway and found that actually it didn't look half bad. This dress is lace effect but more classy less trashy than actual lace (although I do love lace). It had to be a midi because there was no way I was taking the risk of flashing anyone whilst going up the steps to collect my degree, but I wanted it to be fitted to avoid looking like a 14 year old. This ticked all the boxes really. I love the sleeves too with their more sheer material and delicate edging. I don't very often get the chance to dress up posh so this made me feel so amazing for the whole day. The shoes were equally difficult to find. A word of warning for anyone else graduating: please do not wear 6 inch platform heels! You don't need to be worrying about falling on your face on top of everything else, like do you shake hands and then grab the degree or do both at the same time? Maybe I was just unnecessarily worrying. These River Island shoes were the perfect height and chunky enough with ankle support to make sure I was confident enough on stage. And I never really wear high heels other than boots at any other time so I figured I'd get my wear out of these afterwards. They were so comfy; even when playing ping pong in a bar later that night.
I'm not usually such a designer whore but I had to wear my Vivienne Westwood rose gold orb necklace for sentimental reasons and I felt it was in keeping with the classy vibe I tried to carry out. I matched that with my 21st birthday present, the Michael Kors rose gold watch. Super chunky and amazing, I love it.
Good luck/ congratulations to those of you who will be/ have already graduated! As the last cheesy picture in this post shows.. I enjoyed it so much! It was the perfect way to end the best, yet most stressful three years of my life where I met the best people. Hope you enjoyed this longer than usual post; please follow me or comment or anything you feel like on any social media. The buttons are available in the side bar! More posts planned for this week so keep watching :)
